- A Survey on Personalised Information Filtering Systems for the World Wide Web
Technological advances has made wide-area information sharing commonplace. A suite of tools have emerged for information finding and discovery, e.g., Word-Wide Web, Archie, and Gopher. These tools provide a means to search for existing information, but the exploding volume of digital information makes it difficult for the user to keep up with the face pace of information generation. Recent work that arise at the intersection of information retrieval and software agents offers some novel solutions to this problem and several systems with the aim of assisting a user in finding information on the World Wide Web have been developed. Most of these systems can be classified into one out of three categories: search engines, assisted browsing systems, and personalised information filtering systems. In this survey, we focus on personalised information filtering, and have looked at the current status of this area with regard to applications, existing systems, and research.
