Adaptive Security refers to a security solution that

learns and adapts to changing environment at run-time in the face of changing threats
anticipates threats before they are manifested

Autonomic Security refers to

applying the idea of flexibility to the security space itself
automating reconfiguration of the protection mechanisms
resulting a self-protected system running with limited user intervention

Evolving Security refers to

the modification of existing security functions or structures of the security systems and the generation of new functions or structures

Adaptive, Autonomic and Evolving Security involves

gathering contextual information both within the system and the environment
analyzing the collected information and making decisions
responding to changes using the adaptation methods
modifying existing functions/structures and generating new functions/structures

Adaptation form

parametrical via specific variations of the control parameters
structural by dynamic changes in the system structure
goal adapatation by enforcement of specific constraints on the state of the system
in combination

Biological and ecosystem metaphors as helpful inspiration

A complex adaptive system utilizes autonomic systems that mimic biological auto-immune systems and the behavior of an ecosystem
Biological and ecological systems maintain integrity by reacting to known changes, adapting to unknown changes, or dying
Adaptation can be at the macroscopic ecosystem level (e.g. system or species), at the microscopic biological level (e.g., molecular, cellular), or in combination
